The Crowned May Queens 2019

MONDAY 2nd May 2022

Update December 2021

After the disappointment of having to cancel the May Queen fete in both 2020 and 2021, we are now looking to 2022.  The Woodmansterne Village May Queen Fete will now take place on the Village Green on Monday 2nd May 2022.  We are in the early stages of planning for this event and are looking to recruit some additional volunteers.

Each year this fantastic family day out is put together by the volunteer parents of the children involved. Unfortunately as the event has not been able to take place for the past two years due to the impact of COVID, numbers of committee members and children taking part have been depleted.

If you would like to continue to enjoy this day and help raise money for deserving charities then we need YOUR help. If we don’t get new members, the event in 2022 will be the last time this wonderful local community event takes place.

Please come and join us! All you need to be able to do is give up a couple of hours of an evening every couple of weeks between January and May, plus a few hours here and there. You will also need to be able to commit to helping on the day of the fete itself. In return your daughter will be part of the parade and eventually May Queen.  All we ask is that your child has a connection to Woodmansterne.

As the saying goes, many hands make light work, so if you would like to be involved please e-mail mayqueengroup@hotmail.co.uk with the following details:

  • Name & age of child
  • Name of parent & phone number
  • Woodmansterne connection
  • Parents email address

Please bear in mind (depending on the response we receive), that it could be a few years before your child reaches May Queen, so the younger they start, the better. Parents of page boys are also welcome.

Thank you for your continued support.

It is with huge regret that for a second year running our traditional May Queen fete will not be taking place. Planning for this event begins early January and due to restrictions remaining in place and businesses that support our event either heavily effected or closed it will not be possible to plan and organise in the timeframe available, assuming lockdown ends on 8th March 2021.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Woodmansterne Village May Queen Fete will now take place on the Village Green on Monday 3rd May 2021. The procession will leave the Readens at 12.50 and travel up Chipstead Way, arriving on the Village Green at approx.1.15pm.

This years’ May Queen is Holly Jones. Holly will be 14 and has lived in Woodmansterne all her life. She has been part of this May Queen since 2012, when she was 5 years old.
Holly attended Woodmansterne Primary School and is now at The Beacon School. Holly was part of the local Brownie group and used to also take part in the May pole dancing we have each year.  Holly is very studious and her hobbies include reading and art.

Stalls at the fete this year will include bouncy castle, childrens’ rides, face painting, tombola, raffle, refreshments and many more.

This year the group are supporting The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association (registered charity no: 209617), as well as local community groups. In 2019 we raised an amazing £2,000 for our nominated charities and local community groups.

We look forward to seeing you all there and thank you for your support for this fantastic local event, now in its’ 55th year!
